Metalurh Stadium, Multi-purpose stadium in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine
Metalurh Stadium is a football ground in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, built with three tiers of seating arranged around a central grass pitch. The stands are fitted with individual plastic seats and the venue can hold around 30,000 spectators.
The stadium opened in April 1970 and was substantially renovated in the late 1990s to meet the standards required for international football. Those works allowed the venue to host matches at European level for the first time.
The stadium hosts Metalist 1925, a football club from Kharkiv that relocated to Kryvyi Rih after the war forced it to leave its home city. On match days, supporters gather here to follow a team that carries the identity of a city far from its own ground.
The stadium sits close to the Prospekt Metalurhiv metrotram stop, which connects it to the rest of the city without needing a car. On match days it is worth arriving early, as the area around the entrance can fill up quickly.
Since the early 2020s, several stands have been demolished as part of a national infrastructure programme, and the venue is being rebuilt from the ground up. Visitors today will find a working construction site rather than a complete stadium.
