Stanislav-Adziogol Lighthouse

The Stanislav-Adziogol Lighthouse is a leading light in Oleksandrivka and rises about 64 meters above the Dnieper Estuary. Its distinctive steel lattice hyperboloid structure with a central cylinder and double balcony forms a remarkable technical construction.

The renowned engineer Vladimir Shukhov designed this maritime structure in 1910, and construction was completed in 1911 to guide vessels through the Dnieper delta. The innovative hyperboloid design demonstrated early examples of modern engineering from the early 20th century.

The name Adziogol comes from Tatar language, meaning 'lake of pilgrims', which speaks to the maritime traditions of this region. The structure carries memories of the people who once traveled these waters and relied on such landmarks to navigate safely.

The beacon's range reaches up to about 19 nautical miles, allowing ships to enter the river safely. Visitors should be prepared for the exposed location on the water and bring appropriate footwear and weather protection.

Three Russian missiles struck the structure in July 2022, causing significant damage to this early 20th-century engineering work. Despite the destruction, the construction remains a symbol of technical mastery and the resilience of this region.
