Brody, Trade city in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
Brody is a city in the valley of the upper Styr River in Lviv Oblast. It sits roughly 90 kilometers northeast of the regional capital and occupies a historically important location.
The settlement received Magdeburg town rights from Polish King Stephen Bathory in 1584, gaining its status as an independent municipality. A fortress was later built here based on French military designs.
The city became a major center of Jewish life and commerce during the 1800s. Many residents shaped the daily character and cultural habits of the place at that time.
The city serves as an administrative center and offers basic facilities for visitors. You can walk through the old town and find traces of its past throughout the streets.
The fortress was designed by French engineer Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan and featured advanced military architecture of its time. Such French-style fortifications were uncommon in this region.
