Brody

Located in the valley of the upper Styr River, Brody extends across a strategic position 90 kilometers northeast from the regional capital Lviv.

The settlement received Magdeburg town rights from Polish King Stephen Bathory in 1584, establishing its status as an independent municipality.

The city developed into a major Jewish center during the 19th century, with Jewish residents constituting 88 percent of the total population.

The administrative center of Brody urban hromada maintains a population of 23,134 residents as registered in the 2022 census data.

The fortress designed by French engineer Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan incorporated advanced military architecture principles of the 17th century.
