Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport, International airport in Zhuliany district, Kyiv, Ukraine
Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport is an international airport in the Zhuliany district of Kyiv, located about 8 kilometers west of the city center. The facility has three passenger terminals and one concrete runway measuring 1800 meters (5900 feet), suitable for medium-range aircraft.
The site began operations in 1924 as a military airfield and served as the city's only passenger airport until Boryspil opened in 1959. After decades of both military and civil use, the site developed into an important hub for European connections.
The facility carries the name of Igor Sikorsky, a Kyiv-born aviation pioneer whose designs shaped helicopter development. His legacy connects the Ukrainian capital with aviation history worldwide.
The runway allows landings by medium-range aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 due to weight restrictions. Travelers reach the terminals via several road connections from different parts of the Ukrainian capital.
The Ukraine State Aviation Museum stands directly beside the facility and displays numerous aircraft and technology from the Soviet era. Visitors can view historical machines that were once stationed at this site.
