Marhanets

Marhanets is a town in Nikopol Raion situated near the Kakhovka Reservoir, encompassing a main city and several surrounding settlements. It developed from an earlier village with mineral extraction activities into an industrial center connected by rail to other major hubs in the region.

The area started as a village with manganese mining in 1886 and gained official municipality status in 1938 with its current name. This shift marked the transition from rural to industrial development.

The place maintains deep roots in Cossack traditions, visible in how locals reference the historical site of Tomakivka Sich and its position between the river and reservoir. This heritage shapes how people talk about their past and what they consider important to their identity.
