Valley of Narcissi, Nature reserve in Khust Raion, Ukraine.
The Valley of Narcissi is a nature reserve located in lowland terrain of the Carpathian foothills at elevations between 180-200 meters. The site covers 256 hectares and provides habitat for alpine plants adapted to flourish in these lower elevations.
The valley was shaped during the Ice Age when glacial meltwater created conditions for mountain narcissi to thrive in lowland areas. This glacial past influenced the soils and microclimate that continue to support these rare plants today.
The reserve contains numerous educational trails where guides explain the ecological systems and botanical characteristics to visiting groups.
The best time to visit is from late April through early May, when thousands of wild daffodils blanket the meadows across the site. Plan to arrive early during this brief window to see the bloom at its peak.
This reserve holds the only natural population of narrow-leaved narcissus growing at such low elevations anywhere in Europe. This rare occurrence makes the valley botanically significant across the entire continent.
