Zbarazh Castle, Renaissance castle in Zbarazh, Ukraine
Zbarazh Castle is a Renaissance fortress in Ukraine with four pentagonal bastions surrounded by a water-filled moat. A two-story palace sits within the walls, forming the central structure of the complex.
The fortress was built starting in 1626 by the Zbaraski family and endured a siege in 1649 during the uprising led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky. These events shaped the region's history for centuries.
The fortress houses a regional museum displaying archaeological objects, folk art, and religious pieces from the area. Visitors get a sense of daily life from earlier times as they move through the rooms.
The site is open daily and visitors should wear comfortable shoes since paths across the grounds and through bastions can be uneven. Guided tours can be arranged beforehand to learn more about individual rooms and structures.
Underground chambers contain medieval items that reveal uncommon aspects of life in that era. These dark spaces below ground offer visitors a direct sense of how isolated and removed such places once were.
