Bernardine monastery in Zbarazh

The Bernardine Monastery is a monastery complex in Zbarazh with solid stone walls and a church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. Its interior features ornate decorative elements and religious furnishings from different periods.

The monastery was founded in 1627 and served as a place of faith and learning for centuries. During Soviet times it became a hospital and storage facility until it returned to religious use in 2000.

The monastery displays Western European architectural traits adapted to local Ukrainian building methods. The spaces show how Catholic faith merged with regional craftsmanship over centuries.

The site is open daily for visitors, with guided tours explaining the religious significance and architecture. Note that the grounds have uneven terrain, so allow time to explore the buildings and surroundings at a comfortable pace.

The monastery walls contain numerous inscriptions and artworks depicting biblical stories. These pieces offer rare glimpses into 17th-century religious art and reveal how the faithful visually expressed their prayers and devotion.
