Podilski Tovtry National Park, National nature park in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine
Podilski Tovtry National Park is a large protected area in western Podolia, Ukraine. Limestone ridges alternate with deep canyons, waterfalls, caves, and old-growth woodlands along the Dniester River.
The limestone formations date back to prehistoric seas where coral reefs developed over millions of years. The park was officially established in the late 20th century to protect these geological features.
The name comes from Tovtry, a local word for long limestone ridges that define the region. Hikers pass small villages where traditional wooden architecture and old farmhouses still shape the landscape.
Several trails and camping spots are scattered throughout the protected area, mainly near Kamianets-Podilskyi. Information centers and local guides help visitors navigate the extensive terrain.
More than 200 rare plant and animal species find refuge here, including numerous orchid species in the meadows. Rare bat colonies overwinter in the canyon caves and remain mostly hidden during daylight hours.
