Chortkiv Castle

Chortkiv Castle is a stone fortress located on elevated ground along the Seret River in western Ukraine. The complex features three defensive towers that characterize its medieval design and dominate the site's appearance.

The castle was built in the early 17th century by Stanisław Golski and replaced an earlier wooden fortress on the site. The structure withstood multiple attacks from Tatar raiders, underscoring its strategic role in defending the region.

The fortress displays Gothic and Renaissance architectural features that reflect the different influences that shaped western Ukrainian territories. Visitors can observe these styles in the stone structures and towers that define the site's appearance.

The fortress is part of the Castles of Ternopil Oblast National Reserve and is accessible to visitors interested in medieval architecture. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes since uneven ground requires careful walking and the best views of the towers can be enjoyed from different positions around the site.

A network of underground passages lies beneath the fortress, with locals reporting that they extend beneath the river to the nearby town of Bilche-Zolote. These hidden corridors add an extra layer of historical intrigue and protection to the site.
