Novofedorivka, Military air base in Novofedorivka, Crimea, Ukraine
Novofedorivka is a military air base located in the Saky region of Crimea. The facility contains two parallel runways oriented southwest to northeast, along with maintenance areas, storage zones, and dispersal sites for aircraft operations.
The airfield was established in the 1930s as a training ground for the Kachinsky Military Aviation School. During World War II, it was expanded with paved runways built by German forces.
The death of Major Stanislav Karachevsky at Novofedorivka Air Base in April 2014 marked a turning point in military relations between Ukraine and Russia.
The site is closed to the public as it functions as a restricted military zone. Access to the surrounding area is controlled by military personnel.
The facility houses the NITKA landing guidance system, which served as the Soviet Union's only shore-based carrier landing training facility from 1976 onward. This specialized simulator was essential for pilot training and carrier operations practice.
