Saky Raion, Administrative region in western Crimea, Ukraine.
Saky Raion is an administrative region in western Crimea covering roughly 2,260 sq km (870 sq mi) of steppe landscape that reaches the Black Sea coast. It contains one city, Novofedorivka, along with 78 villages managed through local community offices.
Created in 1935, the region underwent major administrative reform in 2020 when Ukraine consolidated its raions from 490 down to 136 districts. This restructuring reshaped the administrative map of the country.
Russians, Ukrainians, and Crimean Tatars form the main communities here, each bringing their own traditions and languages to daily life. This mix shapes the character of villages and neighborhoods across the region.
When exploring, keep in mind that this is largely a rural area where services are spread across village offices rather than concentrated in one place. Weather in the steppe can be harsh, so plan your visit for milder seasons.
The city of Saky functions as the administrative center but holds separate legal status as its own municipality with independent governance. This unusual arrangement means the center is not fully integrated into the raion system.
