Archeological site "Chayka", Archaeological settlement in Yevpatoriia, Ukraine.

The Archeological site Chayka is an ancient settlement near Yevpatoriia with remains of houses, walls, and multiple occupation layers. The excavations reveal a complex settlement pattern where different periods of habitation overlap and build upon one another.

The settlement was founded by Greek colonists and shows evidence of habitation spanning several centuries in antiquity. The occupation was not continuous as the site experienced periods of abandonment and reoccupancy over time.

The artifacts reveal how Greek settlers and local communities coexisted and traded with one another. Pottery and tools found here show the connections between these different populations.

Visitors should arrange visits in advance as guided tours are available on-site to explain the excavation layout and discoveries. The best time to visit depends on weather conditions since the site is an open archaeological area.

The site contains rare examples of defensive structures typical of ancient Black Sea coastal settlements. These building techniques show how residents protected their community from potential threats.
