Sakske, Salt lake in Orekhovo rural settlement, Ukraine
Lake Sakske is a salt lake in the Orekhovo region that spreads across a large area and remains quite shallow throughout. A canal on the eastern side connects the water to the Black Sea, helping to manage water levels and salinity.
The lake was divided into two sections in 1893 through dam construction to separate different uses of the water. This division allowed for distinct purposes in each area, from resource extraction to recreation.
People have sought out this lake since the early 1900s for its salt water and mineral mud, using both for health treatments and personal wellness. The practice of bathing and mud therapy remains part of how locals and visitors experience the place today.
The shallow water and muddy shores make it easy to enter and wade into the lake, even for those with no swimming experience. Visitors should bring suitable footwear since the bottom can be slippery in places.
The water holds natural mineral deposits including Glauber's salt, magnesium chloride, and table salt that form as water evaporates. Unlike many lakes in colder regions, the water never freezes solid, even during the harshest winter months.
