Shevchenko Park, Public park in Odesa, Ukraine
Shevchenko Park is a large green space along the Black Sea coast in Odesa with shaded paths lined by trees, flower beds, and areas for sitting and playing. The grounds stretch between two main streets and offer benches throughout, a Ferris wheel, children's play areas, and direct access to the beach below.
The park was established in 1875 on the grounds of a former fortress and was originally called Alexandrovsky Park. A Russian emperor participated in the opening ceremony and planted a tree as part of the inaugural event.
The park is named after the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and serves as a meeting place where people stroll, spend time with family, and enjoy concerts at the open-air theater. You can observe locals relaxing beneath mature trees and experiencing the seasons change across the gardens.
The park has several entrances and is easy to navigate, with seating available along all paths for rest stops. Morning or early evening visits are most comfortable, as the crowds are lighter and temperatures are cooler than during midday hours.
Within the park stands a memorial to unknown sailors with an eternal flame, where young people take turns serving as an honor guard. This tradition happens only during specific months of the year.
