Perekopsky shaft, Fortification system in Perekop, Ukraine
The Perekop Wall extends 8.5 kilometers from Perekop Bay to Sivash, incorporating deep moats and defensive structures along its length.
The fortification gained strategic importance in 1478 when the Grand Duchy of Lithuania established control over the region between Crimea and mainland territories.
The defensive complex represents military engineering traditions from multiple civilizations, including Crimean Tatars, Ottoman Empire, and Russian Empire fortification methods.
The ancient fortification system maintains a height of 18 meters from the moat bottom and measures over 15 meters wide at its foundation.
The wall contains fragments from different construction periods, with sections dating from the 15th century through modern military modifications of World War II.
