Biletskivski plavni, Landscape reserve in Poltava Oblast, Ukraine.
Biletskivski plavni is a landscape reserve covering about 298 hectares of marshlands, aquatic plants, and small islands with dense woodland. These wetlands form a complex ecosystem where water, vegetation, and small patches of forest create different habitats.
The area was established as a protected reserve to safeguard the wetlands and the region's biodiversity. Shelamai Island contains ancient Archean granite formations that are approximately 2.7 billion years old.
The reserve serves as a gathering place for people interested in observing migratory birds and studying wetland plants. Fishing and plant gathering remain part of how local people interact with specific zones within the landscape.
Visitors can best explore the area by boat from Kremenchuk city, which allows access to different parts of the reserve. The best time to visit depends on what interests you most, since migratory birds arrive during specific seasons.
The reserve contains untouched sections of the original Dnieper River ecosystem where nature remains largely undisturbed by human activity. Three plant species found here are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine as needing protection.
