Гошівський монастир, Greek Catholic monastery in Hoshiv, Ukraine
Goshiv Monastery is a Greek Catholic monastery on Yasna Hora hill featuring the Church of the Transfiguration surrounded by multiple structures within fortified walls. The complex comprises residential and service buildings arranged around the central church.
The monastery was first documented in 1509 and relocated after Tatar raids destroyed the original site in the 17th century. The relocation to its current hilltop location allowed for long-term development of the religious community.
The monastery houses a revered copy of the Czestochowa Madonna from the 18th century, venerated as the Queen of the Carpathians. This icon draws pilgrims who visit to pray and pay their respects.
Access to the monastery is via an uphill route that offers viewpoints of the surrounding landscape. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and wear sturdy footwear for the climb.
The nuns at the monastery maintain traditional crafts including mushroom cultivation, pasta making, and icon painting as part of their daily religious practice. These practical skills blend spiritual calling with self-sufficiency.
