Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Rivne, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Rivne, Ukraine.
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is a brick Orthodox church in Rivne, western Ukraine, with multiple domes and decorative facade details in the Eastern church tradition. It stands in the city center and is clearly visible from the surrounding streets.
The church was built in 1895, during a period when Orthodox communities in the Volhynia region were growing and building new places of worship. In the 20th century it went through difficult decades under Soviet rule, then returned to active use after Ukrainian independence.
On major feasts like Easter, worshippers gather outside the building before and after the service, filling the surrounding area with candles and song. Inside, the walls are covered with icons and the air carries the smell of incense, which is typical of Eastern Orthodox churches in Ukraine.
The church is easy to reach on foot from the center of Rivne and can be spotted from nearby streets thanks to its domes. During services, visitors are welcome to enter but should move quietly and stay away from the main worship area.
In recent years the church transferred from the Russian Orthodox Church to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which received its independence in 2019. This move made it part of a broader shift that has touched many parishes across the country since then.
