Church of the Assumption

The Church of the Assumption is a large religious structure with multiple domes and traditional Orthodox architectural features located in central Ukraine. The building displays characteristic elements of Orthodox style with its distinctive vertical proportions and decorated designs.

The current building replaced a stone cathedral built in 1845 that burned down, which itself had replaced an original wooden church from the 18th century. The continuity of the religious site at this location extends back across multiple generations.

The cathedral serves as a center for regular Orthodox worship and religious ceremonies in the community. It shapes the spiritual rhythm of the city and draws the faithful who gather for services.

The building sits on Taras Shevchenko Street in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. It is wise to check on opening times when planning a visit, as the site follows a religious schedule for its use.

During the 1930s the building was closed and its domes were removed, then converted into public baths. This unusual transformation left marks on the architecture that were later revealed during restoration work.
