Monument to border guards and service dogs in Lehedzyne

The monument features bronze statues of border guards and German shepherd dogs positioned in a combat formation on a stone pedestal.

During July 1941, 500 border guards and 150 service dogs engaged in combat against the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler division near this location.

The memorial honors the sacrifice of both human soldiers and their canine companions who fought together to defend their homeland against invasion.

Visitors can access the monument near the local school in Lehedzyne village, where a mass grave contains the remains of the fallen soldiers.

In a final act of resistance, 150 German shepherd dogs were released against enemy forces, temporarily halting their advance for two days.
