Nebelivka

Nebelivka is an archaeological site in Ukraine covering 260 hectares with over 1200 ancient structures from the Neolithic period, surrounded by a boundary ditch. The remains show how a large settlement was organized with residential areas and central buildings arranged across the landscape.

The settlement dates to the 4th millennium BCE and was a major population center during the Cucuteni-Trypillian period in Eastern Europe. It was eventually abandoned, but excavations since 2012 have uncovered pottery, figurines, and ornaments that document daily life from that era.

The settlement's layout reveals how residents organized themselves into communities, with large rectangular houses arranged in concentric circles that suggest social groupings. This pattern shows how people chose to live together and interact during this early period.

The site is very large and spread across different zones, so it helps to explore it gradually and spend time in each area. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for weather conditions since this is an open field location.

The site contains evidence of one of Europe's earliest large communities, with a population estimated around 15,000 people living together in a coordinated settlement. This level of organization and scale was uncommon for the Neolithic period and rivals contemporary civilizations in other parts of the world.
