Vorokhta Viaduct

Vorokhta Viaduct is a stone railway bridge built across the Prut River in the Yaremche region. The structure features multiple arches that carry the viaduct high above the valley floor in the Carpathian foothills.

The viaduct was built in 1895 under Austro-Hungarian rule with Italian engineers and local workers overseeing construction. It was part of the major railway expansion push through the Carpathian Mountains during that era.

The viaduct shows how important railway development was for connecting remote mountain areas during the Austro-Hungarian period. It remains a testament to the industrial vision that shaped the region's landscape and commerce.

The viaduct sits high in the mountains and is best reached on foot or by local paths from the nearby town. The terrain is rugged and weather can change quickly, so wear sturdy shoes and bring layers.

The original viaduct is no longer in use, but a modern replacement bridge from 2000 stands just beside it. Seeing the two structures side by side offers a striking contrast between century-old stone engineering and contemporary construction methods.
