Костёл Успения Пресвятой Девы Марии, Catholic cathedral in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a stone building with baroque features located in central Kryvyi Rih. Its structure shows layers of different architectural periods that reflect how it evolved over more than 350 years.
The building was completed around 1637 as part of a Carmelite monastery, but the region came under different control in 1654. Between 1746 and 1750, a major redesign reshaped much of its appearance.
This place represents centuries of Catholic faith in a region that shifted between different powers and peoples. Inside, you can still see how religious communities established themselves here and maintained their practices over time.
Religious services are currently held in an annex building while the main structure undergoes renovation. Visitors should expect limited access and may want to check ahead about which areas are open.
Inside are preserved frescoes from the 17th century that show scenes from the city's dramatic past. These wall paintings document in artistic form important moments that unfolded in this region.
