Entebbe International Airport is an international airport in the Central Region of Uganda, operating with two parallel runways and several terminal buildings. The facility stretches along the shores of Lake Victoria and includes separate areas for passenger handling, cargo, and aircraft maintenance.
The airport opened in 1951, developing from a British seaplane base established during the 1930s. Over the following decades, the facility expanded several times to handle growing international air traffic into Uganda.
The airport sits along the shore of Lake Victoria, giving arriving travelers a view of open water during their final approach. Passengers from different East African countries pass through these halls on their way to other destinations.
The airport lies roughly 40 kilometers southwest of Kampala along the coast of Lake Victoria. Travelers can find connections to Dubai, Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Amsterdam operated by different airlines.
The facility houses hangar space and workshops for large aircraft maintenance that also service military planes from the region. This area remains mostly out of sight for regular passengers, though it represents an important part of the airport operations.
