St James's, Administrative district in City of Westminster, United Kingdom

St James's stretches between Piccadilly and The Mall, containing numerous Georgian and Victorian buildings alongside traditional London squares and streets. The area features elegant facades, quiet green spaces, and a network of small charming passages that wind between the main thoroughfares.

Construction of St James's Palace in 1536 marked the beginning of the area's development as a residence for British aristocracy and royal courtiers. Over the centuries, the district grew into a wealthy neighborhood as nobility and affluent merchants settled there and built grand town houses.

The area preserves private members clubs, art galleries, and luxury shops that reflect centuries-old British upper-class customs. Walking through its streets, you experience this world directly in the elegant architecture and discrete entrances of long-established institutions.

Green Park and Piccadilly Circus underground stations provide direct access to the area, with several bus routes stopping along Piccadilly street. Most places are easily reached on foot since distances are short and streets are well marked.

The area houses the Fortnum & Mason department store, which has supplied goods to the British Royal Family since 1707. The shop spans multiple floors, and its window displays are elaborately designed and stop many visitors in their tracks.
