River Ure, Major river in North Yorkshire, England.

The River Ure flows northeast through Wensleydale, creating varied landscapes of green valleys, farmland, and wooded banks. Along its course, it passes through small villages and past historical sites before joining the River Swale near Boroughbridge.

The waterway was once called Earp, later changing to Jor before becoming the Ure we know today. Jervaulx Abbey, a major medieval monastery, was established on its banks and shaped the surrounding landscape for centuries.

The waterway shapes local identity through the valley's connection to Wensleydale cheese making and traditional fishing. Visitors can see how the river remains central to the region's food heritage and rural character.

The waterway is navigable for boats up to the Ripon Canal junction, with multiple access points along the valley for activities. Visits are possible year-round, though spring and summer offer the most pleasant conditions for outdoor activities.

The waterway forms part of the sixth longest river system in the United Kingdom when traced through its connection to the River Ouse. This link creates an important water corridor stretching across northern England.
