Ibrox Stadium, Football stadium in Ibrox district, Glasgow, Scotland
Ibrox Stadium is a football venue in the Ibrox district of Glasgow, Scotland, where four covered stands form a rectangular arena around the pitch. The blue seating rows rise from all sides and offer a direct view of the grass.
Archibald Leitch designed the first structure in 1899, which was later fundamentally altered after two serious accidents with fatalities. The current form emerged after 1971, when the entire site was redesigned and more modern stands were built.
Home matches for Rangers form the center of local life in this part of Glasgow, where the color blue on shirts, scarves and flags shows fan allegiance. On match days thousands stream through the surrounding streets, singing songs and meeting in nearby pubs.
The Ibrox subway station sits right at the venue, so visitors can arrive without long walks. Inside there are food stands and shops selling typical fan merchandise.
The main stand in red brick dates from 1928 and is protected as a listed building, preserving its original facade. While other sections were modernized, this side remains a witness to early stadium architecture.
