Yorkshire Wheel, Observation wheel at National Railway Museum in York, England
The Yorkshire Wheel was an observation wheel with 42 passenger capsules positioned at the National Railway Museum in York. The ride rose to approximately 54 meters high and provided views across the city from rotating cabins.
The wheel opened in 2006 at the National Railway Museum and operated there until 2008. After closing, it relocated to The Principal York hotel in 2011 and remained there through 2013.
The wheel served as a wedding venue and hosted special events like Valentine's Day celebrations throughout its time in the city. This use made it a gathering place for personal milestones beyond typical tourism.
Visitors could ride the wheel and experience multiple full rotations from the cabins, with views reaching across York. Clear weather offered the best visibility for seeing distant landmarks and the surrounding area.
One of the 42 cabins was a VIP capsule with leather seating and a transparent glass floor for a special experience. This cabin gave passengers a more intense view downward during the ride.
