Holyrood Palace, Royal residence in Scotland
The Palace of Holyroodhouse, commonly referred to as Holyrood Palace, is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland.
Founded as a monastery by David I of Scotland in 1128, it has served as the principal residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 15th century.
The palace is an important symbol of national heritage, hosting historical reenactments and cultural events.
It is open to the public throughout the year, except during royal visits.
Holyrood Palace is one of the two palaces owned by the British monarchy that are not part of the Crown Estate.
