Hunstanton, Seaside resort town in Norfolk, England
Hunstanton is a seaside town in Norfolk featuring distinctive red and white striped cliffs and broad sandy beaches that face The Wash bay. The seafront and town center contain numerous Victorian-era buildings that give the place its traditional character.
The town was established in 1846 as a planned resort by Henry L'Estrange Styleman Le Strange, with a railway line soon built to connect it to King's Lynn. This deliberate development made it an important holiday destination during the Victorian period.
The Princess Theatre remains central to local entertainment, hosting performances that draw both residents and visitors throughout the year. The Hunstanton Concert Band continues to engage the community through regular musical events and public concerts.
Regular bus services connect the town to King's Lynn, and accommodation ranges from beachfront hotels to guesthouses throughout the area. The seafront is easily walkable, though visitors should watch for slippery patches when tide levels drop.
This is the only east coast seaside resort in England that faces westward, allowing visitors to watch sunsets over The Wash bay. This unusual orientation means travelers can experience a sunset at the sea, something rarely possible at other resorts along England's eastern coast.
