Holker Street, English sports venue in Cumbria
Holker Street is a football stadium in Barrow-in-Furness with a traditional layout of terraces and a main stand. Most spectators stand on the terraces, while the Brian Arrowsmith Stand along the halfway line provides covered seating for about one thousand people, with partly covered standing areas on the other sides completing the ground's structure.
The ground has been home to Barrow AFC since 1909, a club founded in 1901, anchoring over a century of local football history. In the 1970s, speedway motorcycle races took place here before the facility was converted to meet league standards exclusively for football.
The name Holker Street comes from the street where the stadium stands, and it is central to the local identity in Barrow-in-Furness. The blue and white colors painted on the stands reflect the club's identity and create a visual unity that visitors immediately recognize as home to the Bluebirds.
The stadium is easy to reach by car, with plenty of on-street parking available nearby. Barrow-in-Furness railway station is about a mile away, and from there the floodlights are visible in the distance, making it simple for visitors to walk to the ground.
The stadium only gained a roof over the Holker Street End in 2020, a recent improvement especially appreciated by away supporters during rainy days. This modernization preserves the ground's traditional character while making visits more comfortable in harsh weather.
