Turf Moor, Football stadium in Burnley, England
Turf Moor is a football stadium in Burnley, England, with four stands: the Bob Lord Stand, the Cricket Field Stand, the North Stand, and the Jimmy McIlroy Stand, holding 22,546 spectators in total. The ground sits on Harry Potts Way and spans several blocks with seating and standing sections as well as hospitality areas.
The stadium opened on 17 February 1883, making it the second longest continuously used professional football ground in England after Preston North End's Deepdale. Over the decades, the ground has been expanded and renovated several times to meet the needs of modern matchday operations.
The name comes from a historical moorland where turf was once cut, before the area around Burnley developed into an industrial town. Supporters wear claret and blue colors in large numbers, derived from the club colors and visible throughout the stadium on match days.
Access is available through several entrances around the ground, with parking areas located within walking distance. Visitors should arrive early, as streets around the stadium become busy on match days.
The ground remains the only British football stadium where Bénédictine with hot water is still served, a custom brought back by soldiers from France after World War I. This liqueur is traditionally offered in the hospitality areas on cold match days.
