Canada Water station, railway station in the United Kingdom
Canada Water is an underground and overground railway station in the London Borough of Southwark, served by both the Jubilee Line and the London Overground. It sits at a junction that links south London to the Docklands area to the east.
The station opened in 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line extension that linked east London to the city centre. The London Overground was added later, turning this stop into a more important interchange point.
The name of the station points to a former dock used to store timber and other goods arriving by ship. Visitors who step outside can see the open water of that dock, now surrounded by paths and benches where people sit during the day.
The station has lifts and is accessible for travelers with reduced mobility, making it a straightforward interchange point. It tends to get busy during morning and evening rush hours, so allow a little extra time if you are changing lines.
The station was designed so that natural light reaches the Jubilee Line platforms through large skylights in the roof above, which is unusual for a deep underground stop. This design came from the architects Herron Associates and makes the interior noticeably brighter than most stations on the same line.
