West Wittering

West Wittering is a coastal village on the Manhood Peninsula with sandy beaches and natural salt marshes lining the harbour. The terrain spreads across low-lying land with open water views and sightlines toward the Isle of Wight.

The settlement appeared in the 1086 Domesday Book as a community of four households under Earl Roger's authority. Over the following centuries it remained a small rural place shaped by its coastal location.

The local church shows Norman architecture with medieval stonework that reflects the village's long-standing religious roots. Walking through the parish gives a sense of how this settlement has maintained its rural character over centuries.

The area offers zones for swimming and water sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing throughout the year. The flat terrain allows good beach access for visitors of all experience levels.

The area sits within multiple protected environmental zones, including Bracklesham Bay and Chichester Harbour Special Protection Area. This status reflects how the coastal landscape serves as a refuge for migrating and resident birds.
