Ballymena

Ballymena is a town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, that spreads along the Braid River and connects residential areas, shops, and green spaces. The main streets run through the center, where buildings from different centuries stand alongside modern shopping centers and public facilities.

King Charles I granted land rights to the Adair family in 1626, which led to the founding of a market that continues to this day. Over the centuries, the place developed into a trading hub for the surrounding rural region.

The Braid River flows through the town center and gives the place its character, with walking paths and quieter sections along its banks. On weekends, residents gather on the streets around the old market square, where local traders offer their goods.

The Seven Towers leisure center sits on the eastern edge and offers swimming pools, fitness areas, and sports facilities for visitors of all ages. Parking is available near the center, and the facilities remain accessible throughout the year.

The Saturday market has run continuously since the 17th century and draws visitors from across the region. Traders offer local produce, crafts, and fresh food on the streets around the historic market district.
