Chicago Pile-1, Nuclear reactor in the United States
Chicago Pile-1 (CP-1) was the world's first artificial nuclear reactor.
The construction of CP-1 was part of the Manhattan Project, and was carried out by the University of Chicago Metallurgical Laboratory.
The successful construction of CP-1 marked the beginning of the Atomic Age.
The reactor was built under the stands of Stagg Field, a disused football stadium.
CP-1 was fueled using uranium and moderated with graphite.
