Sycamore

Located 55 miles west-northwest of Chicago, Sycamore features a commercial district with two-story shops along Illinois Route 64 and a 1904 courthouse.

The settlement began in 1835 when New Yorker Christian Sharer platted the original town, initially named Orange, which became the county seat after legal interventions.

The Sycamore Historic District encompasses more than 200 properties that represent the architectural evolution of the city since the nineteenth century.

The city maintains multiple parks, recreational facilities, and educational institutions, served by Sycamore Community Unit School District 427 for public education.

The annual Pumpkin Festival, established in 1962, transforms the courthouse lawn into an exhibition space for hundreds of decorated pumpkins each October.
