Fulton County, Administrative county in Illinois, United States
Fulton County encompasses 883 square miles of land, including agricultural fields, woodlands, and the Illinois River valley in the central part of Illinois.
Created in 1823 from Pike County, Fulton County received its name from Robert Fulton, who developed the first commercial steamboat in the United States.
The Ogden-Fettie Site contains 35 Woodland Mounds arranged in a crescent shape, representing the largest collection of these Native American structures in Illinois.
The county maintains several transportation routes, including US Routes 24 and 136, along with multiple Illinois state highways connecting major population centers.
The Dickson Mounds Museum presents exhibits about Native American life in the Illinois River valley through archaeological findings and educational displays.
