Ligonier, Historic borough in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, US.

Ligonier is a borough in the Laurel Highlands region with a central Diamond square featuring a bandstand and surrounded by local shops and dining venues. The pedestrian-friendly layout makes it easy to explore the downtown area and nearby mountain scenery.

The settlement originated from Fort Ligonier, a British military post built in 1758 during the French and Indian War as a strategic stronghold. The fort's name honored Field Marshal John Ligonier, and its presence shaped the growth of the community that developed around this outpost.

The annual Fort Ligonier Days festival brings together parades, historical reenactments, and craft demonstrations that reflect the area's colonial past. Visitors can watch people in period clothing demonstrate traditional skills and celebrate the heritage that shaped this mountain community.

The borough provides convenient access to year-round outdoor recreation at nearby Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Idlewild Park for hiking and skiing. Both destinations are within short driving distance and offer seasonal activities depending on the time of year you visit.

The Ligonier Valley Railroad, completed in 1877, connected this mountain settlement to Latrobe and opened trade routes that transformed the local economy. Remnants of the railway line can still be traced through the surrounding hills.
