Wells Fargo Center, Indoor arena in South Philadelphia, United States
Wells Fargo Center is an indoor arena in South Philadelphia that features a main bowl with seating for more than twenty thousand spectators and is equipped with modern LED screens. The interior spans several levels with suites, wide concourses, and entry areas that lead to different seating sections.
The arena opened in August 1996 and was initially known as CoreStates Center before undergoing several name changes. It replaced the older Spectrum and became the new venue for sports and major events in the city.
The facility serves as home court for the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, where fans fill the seats in team colors on game nights. During the season, evenings here often carry a lively energy with chants and local sports enthusiasm.
The site sits within the South Philadelphia Sports Complex and offers several thousand parking spaces along with direct access to the SEPTA Broad Street Line for public transit. On event days, arriving early is advisable as the surrounding area becomes busy during major gatherings.
The venue hosted both the Republican National Convention in 2000 and the Democratic National Convention in 2016, making it one of the few places to welcome both major political parties. This dual role shows the flexibility of the space for different kinds of large gatherings beyond sports.
