Marshalltown, County seat in Marshall County, Iowa, United States.

Marshalltown is the county seat of Marshall County and sits in Iowa between the Iowa River and Linn Creek. The town occupies roughly 19 square miles of land in the region.

Henry Anson founded the settlement in 1851 and initially named it after his Michigan hometown. The name changed to Marshalltown in 1862 to avoid conflicts with other similarly named places.

A large Hispanic community has shaped the town's character since the 1990s through ongoing migration from Mexico and Latin America. You can see this influence in local shops, restaurants, and the neighborhoods where families have settled.

The town sits conveniently between two waterways and remains manageable in size for exploring on foot. Local services and amenities are distributed throughout the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods.

Adrian Constantine Anson was born here as the first European child in the town and later became a major baseball player honored in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His remarkable career remains part of the local story.
