Bronxville, Affluent village in Eastchester, New York, US.
Bronxville is a village in Eastchester, New York, USA, located about 15 miles (24 km) north of Manhattan. Streets wind through a heavily wooded area with shops, schools, and homes across just over one square mile of land.
British colonists received the area from local native people in 1666. In the late 19th century, William Van Duzer Lawrence built planned residential neighborhoods and a rail line that turned the village into a commuter community.
The name comes from Jonas Bronck, an early settler whose family gave the nearby river its name. Residents in the area often walk to the small village center, where cafés and shops line the main street.
The rail station in the village center connects directly to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan in about 30 minutes. Paths along the river and through parks work well for walking, especially when trees show their foliage.
The village maintains more than 70 acres (28 ha) of public parks and wooded rest areas that extend to the Bronx River Reservation. Part of this stretch runs on paved trails that residents and visitors use for cycling or jogging.
