Latrobe, Home rule municipality in Westmoreland County, United States.
Latrobe is a municipality in southwestern Pennsylvania, set among rolling hills and farmland. The settlement spreads across several blocks of wooden and brick homes, surrounded by small parks and commercial areas.
The settlement grew in the mid-19th century along a railway line that carried freight and travelers through the region. The place later developed into a hub for steel industry and local services.
The town honors engineer Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who worked on early American infrastructure projects. Brick storefronts along the main street recall the era when railway lines passed through the community.
The municipality lies around 40 miles (64 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh and is accessible by rural highways. Visitors find shops, cafes and small museums in the town center, open on weekdays.
A local pharmacist experimented with ice cream and fruit in the late 19th century, creating a new dessert variant. This combination was later copied by many American ice cream parlors.
