Congregation Shearith Israel, often called The Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, is the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States.
Established in 1654, it has a rich history that spans over three centuries.
The synagogue follows the Sephardic ritual, preserving the liturgical music of its Spanish and Portuguese founders.
It's located on Central Park West at 70th Street in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Despite being an Ashkenazi-majority city, New York's first synagogue was Sephardic.
