Waupun

Waupun is a city spanning Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties in Wisconsin, situated among farmland and residential neighborhoods. The community develops along the Rock River, which serves as a natural feature running through the area.

Seymour Wilcox founded the settlement in 1839 and drove its incorporation as a village. The formal city charter came in March 1878, marking the transition to official city status.

The name comes from the Ojibwe word Waubun, meaning east or dawn, reflecting the native roots of the region. This connection to the native language shapes how locals understand their place and its origins.

The city can be visited throughout the year, though warmer months offer the best conditions for exploring outdoor areas and public art. Parking is readily available at key locations, and walkable streets make it easy to navigate the downtown.

Bronze sculptures by local artist Clarence Addison Shaler decorate the streets, including a copy of End of the Trail. These artworks give the place a distinctive artistic character often unexpected in smaller communities.
