Sun Prairie, Third-class city in Dane County, Wisconsin
Sun Prairie extends across 12.25 square miles of glacial deposits at an elevation of 300 meters in the Madison metropolitan area.
The settlement received its name in 1837 when travelers from Milwaukee carved the words into a tree at the edge of the prairie.
The city conducts annual celebrations including a Sweet Corn Festival and Groundhog Day predictions with the local mascot Jimmy the Groundhog.
The Sun Prairie Area School District manages educational facilities for 8,500 students through multiple elementary, middle, and high school buildings.
The Chase Grain Elevator stands as the final remaining tile elevator structure in Wisconsin and holds a place on the National Register.
