The institution takes its name from David Lipscomb, a preacher and editor who promoted religious education in the late nineteenth century. The campus shows architecture from different decades with brick buildings and newer learning centers that students use daily for seminars, worship gatherings, and events.
The main campus sits in Green Hills, south of downtown Nashville, and can be reached by several approach roads. Visitors can navigate the grounds using parking areas and signs pointing to major buildings.
The athletic teams carry the name Bisons and compete in the ASUN Conference, maintaining a rivalry with nearby Belmont University. This neighborhood competition is called the Battle of the Boulevard and brings life to sports events between the two schools each year.
