Whitlocks Mill Light
Whitlocks Mill Light, Lighthouse near St. Croix River, Calais, Maine
The twenty-five-foot brick tower stands on the south bank of the St. Croix River, featuring a white exterior and automated green navigation light system.
The lighthouse began as a simple red lantern in 1892 before transforming into a permanent structure with keeper's quarters between 1907 and 1909.
The lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of Maine's easternmost port city, marking the final lighthouse construction project in the state.
Visitors can observe the lighthouse from the St. Croix River View Rest Area on Route 1, as the property remains private and closed to public access.
The lighthouse marks the northernmost point of New England's lighthouse network and continues to guide vessels through the international waters between Maine and Canada.
