Washington Square Arch, Marble triumphal arch in Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village, United States.
The Washington Square Arch stands 77 feet tall with white marble columns and features detailed carvings of George Washington as Commander and President.
Stanford White designed this arch in 1891 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of George Washington's inauguration as the first President.
The arch marks the southern end of Fifth Avenue and functions as an entrance gateway to New York University's central gathering space.
The monument includes two pedestals on its north side displaying statues of Washington, added in 1918 by sculptors MacNeil and Calder.
Four seals decorate the upper corners: Washington's family coat of arms, United States seal, New York State seal, and New York City seal.
